Website Age: how old does a site feel?
Updated 23 October 2026
Speed tools tell you how fast a site is. Website Age tells you how old it feels to a visitor.
DesignScan dates the parts of a homepage: the HTML and CSS techniques it uses (for example no responsive CSS points to 2011, CSS grid and variables to 2021), its fonts, JavaScript frameworks and libraries, image formats and the age of the domain. The newest strong signals win: one modern technique on an old base still feels old.
What lowers the age
- A responsive layout that works on phones.
- Modern image formats (WebP, AVIF) and system or variable fonts.
- Current versions of libraries, or none at all.
- A fresh design: the score keeps the year the site feels like, not when it was last edited.
